Scriptwriting – Why everyone can’t do it

These days citizen journalists or bloggers are more prevalent than ever. Apparently a Mac Book Air and a little bit of touch typing is all it takes to create a block of text. Quite, right. Anyone can whip up a paragraph of words, and in turn a couple of sentences, but it’s how well it reads – that ultimately makes the difference. It’s not the action itself that’s important; it’s the skill that packages the prose. Take skiing for example, it’s not about the speed at which you fly down that hill but instead the technique that allows you to come to a standstill.
Scriptwriting looks easy and so it should, because we make it look so. The trick is to make it second nature, so that the listener isn’t questioning the grammatical structure or tone of voice but is simply concentrating on the message your company wants to convey. The key player in the scriptwriting is your company; the person with the loudest voice? Your company. You know your business, now let everyone else know. They say genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration so let the scriptwriting be one less worry. We’ll make sure your contact number isn’t on the script, because who needs be told the digits they've already dialled.
So the dos and don’ts of great scripts are as follows:

Your content should be easy to listen to. Waiting on hold is no one’s favourite pastime so simple messages sans the jargon is the way to go. We want people to forget they’ve been put onhold.
Don’t list every product and service that you sell. To be perfectly honest the waitee will most likely tune in and out as the messages play so pick a few key services and list their best features!
No jokes please! This is serious content in a casual tone. Humour doesn’t always translate the way you’d like, so in this case it’s best to stick to the facts.
Do share what clients/customer don’t know about your business. What new services are on offer? This is great for new customers and longtime clients! For example. “Do you know we now deliver poodles to your home?”
People aren’t mind readers or technical wizards. This isn’t a quiz so don’t test your clients. “Your computer can repurpose vertical informediaries, visualize ubiquitous paradigms and integrate granular experiences.” You will have people hanging up or switching off in no time.
Don’t write an essay. Essay’s are for school and university, not scripts. Short and snappy is the name of the game!
People are smarter than you think so give credit where credit’s due.“... just press 0 to return to the main menu... Zero is in between the star and hash symbols on your phone... your phone is that piece of equipment you use to make calls.... Making calls is how you communicate with each other to provide information... Information is data you receive to become more knowledgeable about a subject or object... etc.
